Akosua Adoma Owusu is a Ghanaian-American filmmaker, producer and visual artist exploring cultural identity, race and the collision between African and western traditions. Born in the USA in 1984, her experimental films blend fiction and documentary, often including collage and archive material, to address the double consciousness and sense of belonging of the African diaspora. Her internationally acclaimed work has been shown at the Berlinale and Toronto film festivals and in institutions including MoMA and the Whitney Museum. In this screening, we present a selection of Owusu’s short films introduced by a talk with the artist regarding the influence of W.E.B. Du Bois on her work.
