Inspired by a medieval text in which speaking animals demand interspecies justice, Carlos Casas’s installation Bestiari, presented at Catalan representation of the 60.º Venice Biennale (2024), is a hypnagogic environment inhabited by the sounds and images of the creatures from natural and imagined Catalonia. During this talk, artists Carlos Casas and Chris Watson will discuss their collaboration in this project. They will share their interest in the sounds of the natural world, exploring how they have been searching for them, recording and rendering them to wide audiences. They will discuss the ways in which art may bridge us to nature and provide important research tools to feel and understand the life that exists beyond the human sphere. The talk will be moderated by Filipa Ramos, curator of the project.
