For this screening, we're starting with Tale of Tales — a masterpiece of animated cinema mentioned as one of the references by filmmaker Alice Rohrwacher, to whom we're dedicating a retrospective — to present a selection of short films by Yuri Norstein. The acclaimed Russian director became known in the 1970s for his meticulous and sensitive work with stop motion animation and cut-outs, and for his use of painting on overlapping glass to create the illusion of depth.
